The Inland Sea
The Inland Sea stands as an iconic dive site, earning a spot in Jacques Cousteau's top 10 dives and becoming a must-see destination on any Gozo trip.
Situated in Dwejra on Gozo's west coast, this unique site features a small lake encased by impressive cliffs, connected to the open water by the famous tunnel. Easily accessible, divers can park close to the water and enter effortlessly using steps at the left side of the boat jetty.
The dive begins with a short surface swim to the left side of the tunnel, leading to a shallow starting depth of 2-3m. Divers then embark on a journey through the 80m-long tunnel, with a gradual descent and steps increasing the depth. As you progress, the view becomes spectacular, resembling a vast canyon with walls rising on either side.
Exiting the tunnel reveals the expanse of the Mediterranean sea, offering varied dive profiles for both beginners and Tec divers, with depths of up to 60m. The surrounding wall showcases a diversity of marine life, from jackfish and grouper to barracuda and elusive octopus.
Returning through the tunnel unveils a breath-taking contrast of light, with sunbeams penetrating the clear water. Surfacing provides stunning views of the cliffs surrounding the Inland Sea, making this dive a special and unique experience. The dive's allure lies not just in marine encounters but also in the mesmerizing underwater landscape.
