Reqqa Reef
Reqqa reef, otherwise know as Reqqa point, sits on a beautiful stretch of Gozo’s north coast.
Divers can enter the water from a ladder or use the giant stride entry from a nearby ledge. Views along the coast here are spectacular, making floating on the surface a real pleasure.
The water on this part of the coast becomes deep almost immediately, with depths of 20-25m sloping down to 60m before the bottom flattens out. This gives those looking to add some depth to their dive ample opportunity to do so.
On descending, divers will follow the wall to their left. Those on deeper dives should look out for some bigger fish, with large Dusky Grouper and even Tuna not uncommon in this area.
After a short while divers can rise up a little to enjoy plenty of time in a platea which sits at 16-20m. Here there is usually an abundance of marine life: Octopus, Cuttlefish, triton Shells, larger Mediterranean Moray and Jackfish hunting the large shoals of damselfish and baitfish.
Once air supply dictates it, making your way back at a shallow depth, nice and slowly, can be a wonderful way to end the dive. Due to the crystal clear water in this area, the effect of the sunlight bursting through the surface is magical.
If air supply and No Deco time allows, there is also a small chimney, making for a more exhilarating way to end the dive. A small entrance at 16-18m allows divers to ascent through a crack in the cliffside before popping out at around.
Divers can then make their safety stop directly under the ladder before exiting.
A great dive, full of life, that never disappoints.
